Building & Earth Takes Home an
ACEC-AL Merit Award

Joey Jones, PE, and Jacob Short, PE, Are Recognized for Geotechnical Engineering and Investigation on
UAB’s Groundbreaking Biomedical Research and Psychology Building Advancing Global Health Research.

Congratulations to Principal and Regional Vice President Joey Jones, PE, and Project Engineer Jacob Short, PE, who recently took home an ACEC-AL Engineering Excellence Merit Award for their work on The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s (UAB) $190M Biomedical Research and Psychology Building.

The facility, designed to advance research and improve human health, presented unique geotechnical challenges due to the area’s urban terrain. Under the leadership of Jones and Short, Building & Earth’s project teams addressed these challenges, drawing on their extensive experience with UAB’s campus and the Birmingham area.

We’d like to thank Brasfield & Gorrie for partnering on this important project and ACEC-AL for bringing engineering professionals together to advance our industry.
